Dr. Sharmistha Maity received her Bachelor’s, Master’s & Ph. D. Degree in the year 1996, 1998 & 2005 respectively from VISVA-BHARATI, Santiniketan, Gurudev Tagore’s place of Peace and tranquility. She was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Science in the broad area of PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY for her thesis entitled “TISSUE CULTURE AND BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF SOME SELECTED FUEL WOOD SPECIES” and also was involved in her Post-Doctoral research in a DBT funded project entitled “EXTRACTION, PURIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF EDIBLE RED PIGMENTS FROM MONASCUS sp.” from there. She is a Life Member of Association of Microbiologists of India. She was awarded with the best poster award in the 46th Annual Conference of Association of Microbiologists of India held at Osmania University, Hyderabad in the year 2005. She has published several research papers in National and International Journals of repute. She was also placed as a Lecturer in Bankura Sammilani College, a Govt Sponored College in West Bengal in 2006. She joined Krishnagar Govt. College in March 2007. Dr. Maity has successfully completed two Minor Research Projects funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Her teaching interests include courses on Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cytology & GeneticSyed Waliullaha) to his credit.
